Meet Billy — Workplace Management & Benefit team

Hi Billy, nice to meet you. Please tell us about yourself.

I joined the company in January 2020 and have been leading the Workplace Design & Management Team in the Global WMB organization ever since. My work is to plan and renew office spaces to keep up with the rapid pace and expansion of Coupang's business, as well as to manage and operate the spaces after construction. Recently, I've been working on projects to build offices in Korea and overseas.   

We’re curious to hear more about your journey to Coupang. What attracted you the most?   

The biggest reason for joining was the opportunity to be a part of creating a new culture, and the expectation that I could constantly grow and change. The ability to do something that no one else can do and to have an impact on everyone is what makes Coupang unique and attractive. It's definitely a lot different than the culture of the companies I've worked for in the past, and it's a very interesting experience.  

What has been the biggest change since you’ve joined Coupang?  

There were two major changes. The first is my attitude towards change.   

The pace of change I’ve experienced at Coupang so far has been remarkably rapid and dynamic that I've felt like the change is happening by minutes and seconds.    

In the midst of the change, it has become natural to quickly decide and act on what I need to do and what I need to change. My attitude towards change has had a positive impact on my work as well as my personal life.   

The second is personal growth.   

I was able to experience building and running offices and planning logistics space layouts all at Coupang. I don't think it's easy to have such a diverse and specialized experience in a single company as this is the case with me.  It was possible because of the scalability and flexible culture that Coupang has that allows us to work freely.  

Do you think Coupang has also gone through a change?  

The pace of change at Coupang is much faster and more powerful than I’ve ever imagined.   

When I joined Coupang in January 2020, the first thing I did was building a smart office for developers in Pangyo. In terms of the numbers, starting with this Pangyo office, we have created more than 5,000 new seats and have operated more than 20 offices. We believe this is a result that comes with a rapid growth, not just physical expansion.   

And I feel like there was as much positive impact on internal growth and change as there was on external growth and change.   

Any tips you’d like to share with those who are interested in career opportunities at Coupang?  

I believe many future candidates will experience notable growth and development by preparing for and joining Coupang's journey of transformation. You'll experience boundless expansion and have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of colleagues with world-class skills.
