Hello, I’m Raon, and I lead the payment operations at Coupang Pay.
Can you describe your current role in detail so that applicants can understand more about what your role entails?
Our team is the Fintech Business Operations Management, commonly referred to as the OM team within the organization. We handle all aspects of payment operations.
Due to the nature of our work, it involves many complex and specific tasks. However, our OM team provides various solutions to ensure safe, easy, intuitive, and smooth payment service for Coupang customers.
In addition, we are working closely with various internal and external partners to enhance our payment services, continuously improving their quality, and reducing system costs. This contributes to providing a simple payment experience for our customers and increasing sales.
What kind of experience do you have? How do you think that experience has helped you in getting hired or your current role?
My career is a bit unique. I have worked in various roles such as accounting, marketing, external relations, and operations across different companies. I started working in the fintech/payment sector for the first time at Coupang.
One of the biggest realizations I’ve had while working here is that my diverse work experience has been a significant asset in my current operations role. This is because, to solve various issues and enhance our services, it is crucial to understand the entire business and navigate complex stakeholder relationships.
Could you introduce the unique culture of Coupang Pay?
What struck me most about Coupang’s culture is how naturally the sense of responsibility is embedded across the organization. Thanks to this culture, everyone naturally takes ownership and focuses on delivering high-quality results. This sense of responsibility has also helped establish an effective remote work environment.
Being able to manage one’s best condition and produce meaningful results through this sense of responsibility is a key part of our healthy organizational culture and a powerful competitive advantage that other companies cannot easily emulate.
Since joining the Coupang Pay team, do you have any memorable or proud moments?
Unlike the typically passive nature of operations work, I focused on improving processes to enable proactive operations from the moment I set up the team. To achieve this, I have been continuously communicating with team members and taking on challenges.
One example is from last February, when I led a project for Coupang Pay to become a direct issuer of cash receipts. Previously, this was handled through an external partner, but we did it internally, leading to cost savings. This project was significant because our team proactively identified improvement points and achieved successful results.
In our team, we take Coupang Leadership Principles seriously. Every month, we study one leadership principle, engaging in open discussions and sharing opinions. This helps us pinpoint key aspects of our work and apply them in practice.
What is your ultimate goal at Coupang Pay?
As an organization that pioneers and tries new paths where others have not gone before, we want to ensure that our operations evolve at the same pace to provide our customers with more reliable and convenient payment services.
Of course, this challenge is not easy, but I want to continue growing and developing with my team through these experiences.
